Martin Smit is Managing Director and Head of Strategic Planning & Business Management at MetLife Investment Management. Martin is responsible for business strategy and corporate development for the firm, the continuous development and implementation of MIM’s strategic plan and execution of key business initiatives.
Martin joined MIM in January 2020. Prior to joining MIM, he spent 20 years at Voya in a wide range of increasingly senior roles spanning investment management and broader financial services. Most recently he established and led Voya Financial’s Global Strategic Relations function, managing the relationships with their most important partners, as well as driving collaboration among the Voya businesses. Prior to that he was Head of Business Management for Voya Investment Management’s Client Group and before that he was Chief Operating Officer for Equity Investments at ING U.S. Investment Management. He began with ING Group in 2000 as part of the company’s Global Management Program.
Martin holds a master’s degree in financial and monetary economics from the Vrije Universiteit in The Netherlands. He also completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is a CFA charter holder.
