Is Housing Crowding Out Consumption?

The housing market is driving inflation to an unprecedented degree, making up 78% of core inflation in October.

Housing expenses may be crowding out consumption in other sectors of the economy as households struggle to afford housing cost increases that are outpacing income growth.

Housing is a priority for households; this may explain some part of the continued inability for other sectors to realize price increases.
