Regional Head of Public Fixed Income, Latin America

Mario Cortés, based in Santiago, is the regional head of Public Fixed Income, Latin America for MetLife Investment Management (MIM). Mario has responsibility for all corporate and sovereign credit risk exposures and trading activities in the region. Overall, the regional office manages approximately 300 credits in countries such as Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Panama and Uruguay.

Before assuming his current role, Mario had direct oversight for a LatAm corporate fixed income portfolio worth more than $3 billion in various industries, including retail, oil and gas, pulp and paper, utilities, metals and mining and several LatAm conglomerates. Prior to that, Mario also held primary responsibility for MetLife’s private equity portfolio in Latin America, being a member of the Advisory Committee of several Latin American funds. Mario joined MetLife in 2006 from BankBoston Chile. While at BankBoston, he held various responsibilities where he most recently was a senior relationship manager for Global Corporate Investment Banking covering mostly Chilean conglomerates. He has over 20 years of industry experience.

Mario holds a degree in Business Administration and a Master in Finance from the Adolfo Ibanez University.
