Head of AIC Public Credit - Insurance Asset Management

Philip I. Varughese is head of AIC (Affiliated Insurance Company) public credit within Insurance Asset Management. In this role, Varughese is responsible for the management of overall public credit risk in MetLife’s insurance portfolios, working closely with sector portfolio managers. Sectors include high grade, high yield, bank loan, emerging markets and municipal bonds. He also oversees the public international credit assets managed out of London, Hong Kong and Santiago.

Varughese was the head of global public credit from 2016 through October 2018 and was head of global research from 2013 to 2015. Prior to this, Varughese served in different roles overseeing international credit risk as head of international credit and regional head of investments for Latin America.

Varughese earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Rochester and an MBA from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
